Food pantry open
St. Michael’s Orthodox Church food pantry, 512 Winter St. in Old Forge, will be open Thursday, May 2, 11 a.m. to noon. This food pantry serves Old Forge, Taylor and Duryea. Anyone needing assistance should call 570-457-3703 or visit the church website, stmichaelof.org, for requirement criteria.
The R & L Civic Club will meet on Friday, May 3, at 8 p.m. at St. George’s Hall in Taylor. Also, anyone who took part in the club’s fundraiser last December is welcome to stop by after 8:30 p.m. for refreshments.
See what its like to be impaired while driving.”Drunk Goggles” Virtual reality goggles let you have that experience without the danger of actually driving. On Saturday, May 4, the Taylor Community Library will hold a presentation that will allow anyone over the age of 12 to try the goggles first hand. This is a great event for those who are too young to drink or drive but may want to see what it would be like if they were in a car with an impaired driver. Officer Thomas McGovern from the Taylor Police Department will hold the class at the Taylor Community Library. Teens, adults and seniors are ALL welcome to this presentation which runs 1-2:30 p.m. Registration is requested but not required. The event is free. Riverside music concerts
The spring elementary school concerts for Riverside are:
• Tuesday, May 7, at Riverside High School at 6:30 p.m.: kindergarten musical.
• Wednesday, May 8, at Riverside High School at 6:30 p.m: first-grade musical.
• Tuesday, May 14, at Riverside Elementary East at 7 p.m.: fifth-grade concert.
• Wednesday, May 15, at Riverside Elementary East at 7 p.m.: sixth-grade concert.
• Tuesday, May 21, at Riverside High School at 6:30 p.m.: second-grade musical.
The semi-annual chicken barbecue from Taylor Fire Department No. 1, Ladder Co. No. 95, returns Saturday, May 11. The dinner includes homemade baked beans, homemade potato salad and a roll, dessert and beverages, all for $10. Call 570-878-1466 for tickets.
Fire co. breakfast
Taylor Fire and Rescue, 1137 Reynolds Ave., will hold its semi-annual pancake and sausage breakfast Sunday, May 19, 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Eat in or take out.
The Shinko Ryu Karate Club of Taylor will be offering free summer karate classes for beginners outside of the Taylor Community Center starting Monday, June 3. (You must start before June 29.)
