With fall quickly approaching soccer is in full swing. In the Triboro area, Old Forge and Riverside continue to build their programs.

At times, these schools face challenges other local high schools do not. Both Old Forge and Riverside have co-ed teams and play in the boys’ Division III league. Although they differ from other teams in the area they are still striving toward the same goal, a playoff run.

Old Forge

Old Forge, led by coach John Mucciolo, is looking forward to the 2018 season. The Blue Devils are coming off a historic year. They made a playoff run and won their first-ever championship bracket game. Old Forge is hoping to build on last year’s success. The Blue Devils finished their 2017 campaign with three wins and nine losses. They return eight players this fall: Mike Mucciolo, Jimmy Perry, Nick Silva, Stephen Evans, Santino Brigido, Luke Tomaovitch, Nina Zimmerman and Noah McDonald. Zimmerman and McDonald lead the returners, and their leadership will be key. These new players are Dino Domiano, Nate Krenitsky, Hau Nguyen, Riley Tomasovitch and Everett Perry.

The Blue Devils opened their season against Gregory the Great Academy and Holy Cross. Their upcoming games are against Riverside, Montrose Area, Carbondale Area, Forest City, Elk Lake, Mountain View, Dunmore, Blue Ridge, West Scranton, Mid Valley, Western Wayne and Lakeland. The regular season will then be followed by the District 2 tournament.

Riverside too faces the struggles of playing co-ed soccer on the boys’ half of the division. In the 2017 season the Viking’s faced a difficult schedule and struggled to get a win.

Although there were many hard-fought games, they finished the season 0-12. Fortunately for Riverside, they have many players returning and some newcomers in the mix that may pull the Vikings back to a playoff team. Players for the 2018 season are Jason Benson, Cody Beverage, Bryce Collins, Kevin Connor, Lorenzo Gomez, Francisco Grande, Jordan Grzyboski, Maddie Klinger, Michael Novotka, Enrique Olmedo, Jake Pajilich, Kori Posdon, Brandon Reed, Brandon Soto and Jared Yates.

The Vikings opened up their season against Mountain View. In the approaching games they will face, Old Forge, Forest City, Western Wayne, Carbondale Area, Blue Ridge, West Scranton, Elk Lake, Mid Valley, Dunmore, Holy Cross, Gregory the Great Academy, Montrose Area and Lakeland.
