An upcoming event in Taylor gives local senior citizens an opportunity obtain information aimed at helping them live healthier, more productive lives.

The Senior Fair will take place Friday, Aug. 9, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Riverside Junior-Senior High School, 310 Davis St. Hosted by State Rep. Bridget M. Kosierowski, it will include close to 30 vendors.

“It’s a great one-stop shop for people to learn about the new and existing services which benefit our senior citizens,” Kosierowski said. “It’s important to meet with our older residents and make sure they have access to the resources and help they need to take care of themselves.”

Kosierowski said senior fairs are an excellent way for seniors to learn more about some of the services they’re entitled to.

“As a member of the aging committee, protecting our seniors’ dignity and safety is one of my top priorities,” said Kosierowski, who won the special election earlier this year to serve the 114th Legislative District following the death of Rep. Sid Michaels Kavulich, whose office hosted an annual senior fair.

Among the organizations scheduled to have representatives at the event are AAA North Penn, ASERA Care Hospice, Pennsylvania Department on Aging, Lackawanna County Library System and NeighborWorks Northeastern PA.

Kosierowski and her staff will also be on hand to answer questions and provide information on a variety of government-related initiatives and programs.

“Our district office also offers a broad range of services,” Kosierowski said. “Our office can help with PennDot issues, vital records applications, property tax/rent rebates, PACE cards for seniors, unemployment compensation problems, complaints and problems with insurance companies and so much more.”

In addition to the government and exhibitor information, the Senior Fair will feature food catered by the Glider Diner, refreshments donated by L.T. Verrastro Inc., and baskets, gift cards and gifts donated by local restaurants, grocery stores, hair salons, hardware stores and other businesses.

Kosierowski said she plans to make the Senior Fair a regular event.

“We will be hosting a Senior Fair every year, and we hope in the future to host children’s fairs and many more constituent service events.”
